The funding programmes of the FondsBeton: 2021 – 2024
In memory of our association colleague Laëtitia Graffart (1983 – 2021), who during her very active comic life was particularly committed to comic projects that brought together artists from France and Germany, the German Comics Association has set up the ‘FondsBeton’ support fund. It is named after the French-German fanzine ‘Beton’ published by Laetitia.
The FondsBeton, which is administered by the German Comic Association under its umbrella, serves to promote French-German comic projects of all kinds: applications can be made for co-operations or events as well as printing cost subsidies and translation assistance. The application form can be found here, the exact funding guidelines (currently only in German) can be viewed here .
The application conditions are kept low-threshold. The FondsBeton is designed as a joint donation and consumption fund. Every donation counts, regardless of the amount, everyone can donate as they wish (DONATE HERE). Your incoming donations are collected and then paid out once a year according to the funding requirements and payment options.
In 2021, the commemorative publication ‘LAETBeton’, published by Stephane Hirlemann, was subsidised by the FondsBeton with a printing cost grant. Link to the online reading version
In 2022, the project by comic artists Michael Jordan and ETIOU on the Maurepas district of Rennes (F): ‘Maurepas en transition’ was awarded funding. The publication, which was delayed due to illness, is now about to be published.
In 2023, the Fondsbeton supported the publication ‘Flüssiger Bär | Ours Liquide “ by Alex Chauvel, which was published in German and French by the Berlin publishing house ”round not square’ and therefore rolled up.
In 2024, FondsBeton was able to support the exhibition by French comic artist Anne Simon, published by Rotopol, as part of the Hamburg Comic Festival.
Many thanks to all the dedicated comic artists and comic activists who are committed to such great French-German comic projects, and especially to all the generous donors who support the fund and make this work possible in the first place!
