Presentation of the Berlin Comic Scholarship Holders 2025 on July 4th
The scholarship holders of the Berlin Comic Scholarship 2025 and the 2025 Berlin Comic Cultural Exchange Scholarship – Matías Boettner, Katia Fouquet, Paula Kempker and, for Paris, Clayton Junior – will present themselves and their works in a panel event moderated by Axel Halling, Chairman of the Deutscher Comicverein e.V., on 4 July at 6 p.m. in the event hall of the Museum für Kommunikation. Other guests on the panel will include representatives of the previous fellows of the Comic Residency Programme for Paris. You are cordially invited!
After the discussion at around 6.45 pm, the exhibition opening will take place on the 2nd floor of the museum. The exhibition will be on display on the 2nd floor of the Museum für Kommunikation Berlin from 4 July 2025 to 11 January 2026. Selected exhibits from this year’s Berlin Comic Scholarship holders will be presented. In addition to the 2025 scholarship holders, works by the Paris scholarship holders Burcu Türker, Sophie Artz, Karolina Chyzewska, Kai Pfeiffer, Sheree Domingo Betz and Bianca Schaalburg will also be on display.
Following the conclusion of the budget negotiations in January, the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion awarded three Berlin comic artists three eight-month work grants totalling 16,000 euros each. The 6-month residency scholarship at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris for 2025/2026 was also awarded in the amount of 15,000 euros. Matías Boettner, Katia Fouquet and Paula Kempker received three eight-month scholarships in the field of comics. Clayton Junior was nominated for the Comic in Paris 2025/26 residency scholarship.
This year’s independent comics jury consisted of Beatrice Davies, last year’s scholarship holder, journalist Ralf Hutter, literary scholar Prof Dr Irmela Marei Krüger-Fürhoff, Katharina-Sofie Naujoks as representative of the German Comics Association and journalist Ralph Trommer. The jury had to decide on 101 applications for the comic scholarships. Seven Berlin comic artists applied for the residency scholarship in Paris.
The events are organised by the Deutscher Comicverein e.V. with the support of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion and in cooperation with the Museum for Communication Berlin and the Comic Invasion Berlin festival.
