Comic Reportages from Erlangen

As part of the exhibition “Zeich(n)en der Zeit – Comic-Reporter unterwegs,” which premiered at the 18th International Comic Salon Erlangen in June of 2018, we invited people to take part in a comics journalism workshop. Five journalists and five artists from Erlangen and the surrounding region attended the workshop from the 3rd to the 5th of August in the Erlangen City Museum. The workshop was led by journalist Lilian Pithan and artist Sascha Hommer.

Over the course of the weekend, the teams worked together to produce five comic reportages that provided insight into daily life in Erlangen. Their research took them to a variety of places throughout the city, such as the Philosopher’s Quarter district, the university and the botanical gardens. The reportages were then published in the Erlanger Nachrichten newspaper; the paper also published two articles on the workshop.

The original drawings were exhibited from the 23rd to the 26th of August as part of the 38th Poetry Festival in Erlangen Art Association gallery. Once the exhibition was over, the reportages made their way to the editorial offices of the Erlanger Nachrichten to be published.
