Comic Reportages from Berlin

We organised a comics journalism workshop as part of the exhibition “Zeich(n)en der Zeit – Comicjournalismus weltweit”, which took place from the 23rd of May to the 25th of August 2019 in the Museum for Communication Berlin.

On the 20th and 21st of July, eight comics artists and eight journalists worked together to produce reportages on the topic of #rentalpricemadness in Berlin. The research took them to disparate city districts including Mitte, Neukölln and Zehlendorf.

The workshop was led by journalist Lilian Pithan and comics artist Sascha Hommer. Additional input was provided by Lars von Törne, an editor at the daily newspaper Der Tagesspiegel.

The eight comic reportages were then published on the Summer of Comics website hosted by the Museum for Communication Berlin. In addition, some of the pieces appeared in the Tagesspiegel-weekend edition “Mehr Berlin,” as well as in Perspective Daily and Neuen Deutschland, as part of a cooperative agreement with the papers.
