Helsinki Comics Festival 2014
From September 5 to 7, 2014, the German Comics Association attended the 29th Helsinki Comics Festival (Sarjakuvafestivaalit), which placed an emphasis on German-language comics. Upon the initiative of our association, an all-encompassing selection of graphic novels and comics were presented.
During a panel session, members of the association discussed the current situation of the comics culture in German, particularly the occupational situation of artists (keyword: limited opportunities for support). Beyond that, the creation of an international institute for comics was also discussed. The decades-long and successful work of the Finnish Comics Society serves here as an important role model. A visit to their facilities was a great opportunity to learn more in-depth about their numerous activities.
