Angoulême 2023

Loads of visitors and signing artists: The booth for Comics in German Language 2023 (Mia Oberländer at work, photo: Dt, Comicverein)

It is a first highlight in every comic year. As the largest comics festival in Europe, the Festival International BD in Angoulême attracts over 200,000 visitors to the Charente. Since 2014, there has been a regular presence here for German-language comics. And since 2016, the booth has been jointly organized by the German Comics Association (Deutscher Comicverein e.V.) with the partner organizations Comicsalon/Kulturamt Erlangen and the Goethe Institut Paris. The festival appearance was particularly supported financially this year by the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung, which annually awards the Comic Book Prize, the largest private sponsorship for comic works.

In 2023, a great many German-speaking artists put pen to paper at the booth in the “Noveau Monde” tent hall (in alphabetical order): Max Baitinger,Jeff Chi, Aisha Franz (nominated for a festival award, official main guest of the booth), Anna Haifisch, Jens Harder (nominated for a festival award), Michael Jordan, Josephine Mark, Mia Oberländer, Nils Oskamp, Jan Soeken. Franz Suess came especially from Vienna with the support of the Austrian Cultural Forum.

The already established and popular beer reception on Friday evening – cancelled in 2022 due to Corona – was again very popular and brought together comics creators from all over the world at the booth. At this point, many thanks to all participants and supporters who were present this time!
